The power and importance of education were ingrained within me from my earliest days. That will happen when both your parents, your aunt and uncle and a myriad of cousins are teachers.
Combined with family (both biological and the friends and colleagues we hold close) and creating positive impact by using our short time on earth for good, education is among my most important core values.
Education has the power to transform lives and allow individuals to become the best versions of themselves. It is the greatest tool there is to lift people out of poverty and create lasting change in developing communities.
That is why I was so honored when the Halton District School Board named a Canadian secondary school the Craig Kielburger Secondary School. The school educates students in grades 9-12, and stands just a short drive from where I grew up outside of Toronto. It was particularly humbling because the movement to name the school was instigated by the students of the school board.

I remain truly honored to be associated with a school whose students and faculty are compassionate, kind, and caring, and exude those values every single day.
